At 5pm Portugal took on Turkey in Dortmund for both teams to attempt to get through to the Knockout Stages of the Euros. The game got off to a slow start as both teams were struggling to crack open opposing defence. But it only took for the 21st minute for Rafael Leao to dash a through ball to Nuno Mendes from the left wing into the Turkish box. It was a missed pass to Ronaldo which landed at Bernardo Silva’s Feet for a first-time finish.
Shortly after the first goal,Turkey’s confidence began to fall as Turkish defender Samet Akayadin attempted to play the ball back to goalkeeper Bayandir after a failed attack from the Portuguese ended up curling around the keeper and into the Turkish net.
15 minutes after half time Ronaldo was met by a pinged pass which led him with a 2v1 against the goalkeeper. Ronaldo remained composed as he switched the ball to Midfielder Bruno Fernandes who calmly tapped the ball into the open net. Eventually, the Turks began to get their flow back and started to get back into the game but the Portuguese defence was unstoppable. As the turkish couldn’t seem to get the ball in the box.
Football Reports MOTM: Pepe
Portuguese defender Pepe dominated the Turkish Attack and really proved age is just a number. The 41 year old repeatedly controlled the backline and protected the Portuguese box with his life. Pepe kept attempting to start attacks and get up the pitch safely with no risk and no consequence, which is why he has got my MOTM.
